Official Invitation
βNow if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.β (Exodus 19:5,6)
Dear beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
In commemorating the 40th anniversary of the European campus pioneering ministry, I thank our God for this opportunity to invite you to the 2009 European Summer Bible Conference.
Our God, who called a hopeless 75 years old man, Abram, to make him into a source of blessing, is the God of hope. This God of hope, in his mercy, saved all of mankind who was suffering under agony of the power of sin through the precious blood of Jesus. And this very God of hope commissioned Apostle Paul to go to Europe with the gospel of Jesus, and in fulfillment Paulβs prayer, has used Europe as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation for his world mission ministry during the past 2,000 years.
After the seeds of the gospel was planted in Europe through Apostle Paul, the God of hope continued His gospel ministry by raising up spiritual leaders and servants of His Word among the young intellectuals in Europe such as John Wycliffe, Thomas a Kempis, Jan Hus, Martin Luther, John Bunyan, John Wesley, Spener, Franke, Zinzendorf, O. Hallesby, and Bonhoeffe. Through His servant Martin Luther, the Bible was translated and became easily accessible and more people came to learn for themselves the truth of His salvation through reading the Bible. Moreover, the fruits of faith started to blossom all over the world, in Africa, Asia, and South America, as God in his great hope, raised up numerous missionaries from Europe such as Hudson Taylor, Albert Schweitzer, David Livingston, and William Carey, all of whom risked their own lives to preach the gospel. By building up churches and schools and hospitals wherever they went, these selfless missionaries created a spiritual Zion in their respective mission fields, shining into this dark world His light of life and hope.
However in the 19th century, Europe, which the God of hope used as breeding grounds for missionaries, started to beget dark ideas such as Darwinβs evolutionary theory. As a result, by the 20th century, the word of God became scarce in Europe as humanism, relativism, materialism, and hedonism overwhelmed the European society. The great European intellectuals, whom God used preciously in the past to conquer the world, have lost Godβs hope and mission. Currently, the threat of Islamisation looms over spiritually decaying European society. Entering the 21st century, Europe is struggling to create a new world order in politics and economy through its pursuit for European Union (EU).
But God, in his unconditional love, did not give up hope for Europe! Godβs hope and devotion for Europe became evident when He sent sacrificial nurse missionaries to Germany to start a new history of hope in 1969. This hope of God began to blossom as the student missionaries came and devoted their youth as bible teachers for young campus students in Europe and challenged a new spiritual restoration of this continent. Through their sacrificial lives and acts of faith such as one-to-one Bible study, early morning Daily Bread, and disciple-making ministry, our God began restoring the gospel faith in many European campuses and has raised up numerous disciples of Jesus among European natives. Many of the young students in Europe who accepted Godβs hope and mission grew to be responsible spiritual leaders for Godβs World Mission Ministry as they now proudly and sacrificially bring Godβs hope and love into future generations. Our God has hope to double His ministry by 2010 and pioneer 1,700 European campuses through them and through us. We pray that the fruits of our faith in Europe may blossom across the globe as we pray to send out 100,000 missionaries to the whole world, especially China, North Korea, and the Muslim countries by 2041.
Praise be to our God for his unchanging hope to use Europe as a missionary sending and priestly continent for the world once again!
On August 13~16, 2009, we are holding the 2009 European Summer Bible Conference in Eringerfeld, Germany. Through this event, we would like to thank God for the mighty work He has done in European campuses through UBF missionaries and native shepherds for the last 40 years and renew Godβs hope and vision for our ministry of next generation. In addition, we would like to have a time to pray with the guests from all over the world for the spiritual restoration of Europe and World Mission.
Europe UBF challenges to spiritually restore Europe through 1,000 times of united prayer for 1,000 attendants to this upcoming conference. I sincerely ask you to participate in this prayer. The conference website http://www.ubferingerfeld09.org contains detailed information about the conference such as conference program, post-conference travel packages to 6 destinations, and online registration.
To mark the special occasion of the 40th anniversary of European campus pioneering ministry, we are inviting Dr. John Jun and Msn. Sun-Ji Jun, Mother Sarah Barry, Msn. Grace A. Lee, Shep. Samuel H. Lee, Prof. Paul Hong, and all our precious world mission co-workers and shepherds who are serving our Lord Jesus Christ faithfully this very hour to the 2009 European Summer Bible Conference. Please come and witness Godβs on-going history as we gather together to thank God for the βHope of Godβ for Europe and join European Campus Mission and serve this generation with the Word of God. Thank you.
In the grace of our Lord,
Dr. Peter Chang
